Banana Jack Murphy Celebrates 25th Bananaversary

New Talk Show to Air Weekdays at 3:00 PM

(Loris,SC)  If you were listening to the radio during the 90s and the early years of this century, then chances are you heard The Banana Jack Murphy Show. The popular morning radio program debuted on April 24, 1989 on was heard weekdays, 6-10 am, on 101.7 FM. Banana Jack Murphy handled morning drive on that rock radio frequency until 2001, when he was chosen to replace Howard Stern on 104.1 FM, another rock station along the Grand Strand. Murphy continued to host his popular morning radio show on 104.1 FM until April 18, 2007.

In the fall of 2007, Murphy and his wife, Barb Krumm formed their own broadcast company and purchased WLSC 1240 AM in Loris. Since that time, Murphy has spent more time in management than on the air, but he never put away his headphones. "I have radio in my DNA, so I've still hosted at least one program per week.", says Murphy. WLSC also known as Tiger Radio recently flipped from an oldies format to talk. This change in direction for the station opened the doors for Murphy to recreate a talk radio version of his once popular morning radio show.

Starting April 1st (April Fools Day), listeners can tune in at 3:00 pm every weekday to hear Murphy and his cast of crazy characters including Harold Dean of Loris, Mr. Know-It-All, Rev. I.B. Wright, Claude & Earl and Leon Frazier, The World's Worst Elvis Impersonator.

Murphy's new show will also bring back fun features of his old program such as The Murphy Report, Uncle Banana's Animal Tales, The Crime Fighter's Notebook and a ton of song parodies. Murphy adds, "I recorded a bunch of wacky songs through the years like Marion Woman and My Last Pop Tart. I can't wait to get back in the studio and record some new stuff. I think folks are really gonna dig it. It's time to go bananas again!"

The Banana Jack Murphy Show can be heard locally on Tiger Radio WLSC AM 1240 or online at TigerRadio.com. WLSC Tiger Radio is also available on TuneIn, Roku, UStream, Shoutcast and AudioNow by dialing 213-493-0145 or 843-733-3153.

Giddy Up, Wild West Wednesday Is On The Radio

I guess you could call me a "salt water cowboy".  I've spent the past 25 years living along the coast, just a few blocks from the Atlantic Ocean.  Myrtle Beach,  South Carolina is home sweet home.  So, how could it be that I have this passion for the Wild West?

Perhaps it comes from watching John Wayne movies as a child.  Maybe, I could blame it on the Cartwrights.  Or The Lone Ranger...hhhhmmm?

Regardless, as I started programming WLSC Tiger Radio after a switch to a talk format last November, I decided to do something completely different.  Listeners that tune in on Wednesday afternoons and evenings will surely agree.

Wild West Wednesdays on WLSC Tiger Radio start at 4 pm with a program hosted by 2 brothers living on their ranch in Wyoming.  Jim and Andy Nelson deliver a hilarious look at cowboy life with their show, "Clear Out West".

Starting at 5 pm, Dakota Livesay goes back in time sharing stories from actual newspaper articles from the 1800s, "Chornicle of the Old West" is an informative and entertaining look at American history as seen through the eyes of newspaper reports from long ago.  This delightful radio program actually originated from a magazine that Livesay created years ago and is still in publication.

Red Steagall and the boys in the bunkhouse gather around the microhone to share stories and cowboy poetry when "Cowboy Corner" hits the air at 6 pm.  Steagall's interviews with ranchers, cowboys, singers and stars of those good ol' westerns from yesteryear will have you yearning to saddle up and head out west.  Listeners may know Steagall from his monthly feature in Cowboys & Indians magazine. Red can also be seen weekly on RFD-TV.

Finally, we've dusted off the tumbleweeds from our incredible collection of old radio dramas.  For two hours every week,  you'll be entertained by the likes of Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry, Death Valley Days and a whole lot more.

So, giddy up and head out to the radio ranch known as WLSC Tiger Radio as we present for buckaroos of all ages, a fun filled afternoon and evening of cowboy fun! Wild West Wednesday is on the air!

Stay Tuned!
