Down at the Barbershop Debuts on April Fools Day

 Down at the Barbershop Debuts on April Fools Day

Loris, SC -  Loris Barber Shop and WLSC Tiger Radio have teamed up to produce a weekly two hour live broadcast called, "Down at the Barbershop".  The first broadcast will happen this Friday, April 1st at Loris Barber Shop located at 4011 Meeting Street in downtown Loris.  The show starts at 10 am.  Even though, it's April Fools Day, organizers promise this is no joke.

"How can this be a joke?  When you come see us, we're gonna give you an RC Cola and a Moon Pie.  It's southern hospitality at its best.", says Banana Jack Murphy, emcee for the broadcast.  He adds, "We're even going to have the Loris Chamber of Commerce here for an official ribbon cutting.  To be honest, I think they're coming for the Moon Pies.  It's just gonna be big small town fun."

Local musician, Big Bam Boom is scheduled to perform live music for the inaugural broadcast.  There will be lots of laughs with Jason Porter, the friendly owner of Loris Barber Shop and a local character knows as The Ragin' Cajun will be on hand, too.  So, come on down and get a haircut, play a game or two of checkers and have a good old time with the gang at Loris Barber Shop.

"Down at the Barbershop" will live every Friday 10 am until Noon.   If you can play an instrument or know any good jokes, then you're invited to be part of future broadcasts.

Cuttin' Hair and Cuttin' Up "Down at the Barbershop"

There's a new show on the radio.  It's called "Down at the Barbershop".  You're invited to join the gang at Loris Barber Shop for live music, a friendly game of checkers and all the Moon Pies and RC Cola that you can handle.  Radio and TV personality Banana Jack Murphy is the creator of this program and he will also be the master of ceremonies for this one of a kind broadcast.

"We live in a fast paced world.  It's just go, go, go all the time until you sit down in that chair to get a haircut at the barber shop.", says Banana Jack Murphy, a regular customer at Loris Barber Shop. Murphy says he gets a kick out of all the stories that he hears from folks.  He adds, "One guy sits down and starts talking about sports.  The next fellow will get all worked up on politics.  You'll hear a hunting story or two and as you'd expect just about everybody talks about the weather."

For folks that want to be part of the fun, Loris Barber Shop is located at 4011 Meeting Street in downtown Loris.  "Down at the Barbershop" will feature Banana Jack Murphy and Jason Porter, who owns Loris Barber Shop.  The Ragin' Cajun will also make an appearance from time to time.  Local musicians will perform live.  If you play an instrument, please drop in for an impromptu jam session. Believe it or not, a real barbershop quartet will be performing every once in a while, too.

Tiger Radio WLSC is a Hit with Home Show Visitors


WLSC Tiger Radio was a big hit with visitors to the 2015 Home Improvement and Outdoor Living Show at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.  WLSC Tiger Radio debuted the new Tiger Radio logo and handed out hundreds of new bumper stickers to visitors.  The overwhelming response was positive.  Folks are really excited that there is a radio station that plays classic country music.  The home show took place Friday through Sunday (September 11-13, 2015).

WLSC Tiger Radio Launches Classic Country Format on Labor Day

Loris, SC - The music of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline returns to the airwaves on Monday, September 7th.  WLSC Tiger Radio will start broadcasting classic country music at High Noon.

Listeners can hear WLSC Tiger Radio by tuning to 1240 AM or online at TigerRadio.com.

"It's been a while since you could turn on your radio and hear real country music.", says WLSC General Manager, Banana Jack Murphy.  "Seriously, when was the last time you heard Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn or George Jones and Tammy Wynette?  How about Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Marty Robbins? That's the good stuff."

WLSC Tiger Radio promises to play the biggest country hits from the '50s to the '90s.  "We'll also go back to the days of Hank WIlliams and Ernest Tubb, too.", states Murphy. He adds, " You also hear Alabama, George Strait, Clint Black and of course, Kenny and Dolly."

In addition to well known hits from classic country artists, WLSC Tiger Radio will feature a Hymn of the Hour.  Once every hour, the station will broadcast a gospel song recorded by classic country artists, gospel quartets and occassionally a local or regional act will be featured.

Banana Jack Murphy Celebrates 25th Bananaversary

New Talk Show to Air Weekdays at 3:00 PM

(Loris,SC)  If you were listening to the radio during the 90s and the early years of this century, then chances are you heard The Banana Jack Murphy Show. The popular morning radio program debuted on April 24, 1989 on was heard weekdays, 6-10 am, on 101.7 FM. Banana Jack Murphy handled morning drive on that rock radio frequency until 2001, when he was chosen to replace Howard Stern on 104.1 FM, another rock station along the Grand Strand. Murphy continued to host his popular morning radio show on 104.1 FM until April 18, 2007.

In the fall of 2007, Murphy and his wife, Barb Krumm formed their own broadcast company and purchased WLSC 1240 AM in Loris. Since that time, Murphy has spent more time in management than on the air, but he never put away his headphones. "I have radio in my DNA, so I've still hosted at least one program per week.", says Murphy. WLSC also known as Tiger Radio recently flipped from an oldies format to talk. This change in direction for the station opened the doors for Murphy to recreate a talk radio version of his once popular morning radio show.

Starting April 1st (April Fools Day), listeners can tune in at 3:00 pm every weekday to hear Murphy and his cast of crazy characters including Harold Dean of Loris, Mr. Know-It-All, Rev. I.B. Wright, Claude & Earl and Leon Frazier, The World's Worst Elvis Impersonator.

Murphy's new show will also bring back fun features of his old program such as The Murphy Report, Uncle Banana's Animal Tales, The Crime Fighter's Notebook and a ton of song parodies. Murphy adds, "I recorded a bunch of wacky songs through the years like Marion Woman and My Last Pop Tart. I can't wait to get back in the studio and record some new stuff. I think folks are really gonna dig it. It's time to go bananas again!"
